Hal Craddock was presented with the Margaret Burnette Award last week at the Annual Meeting of Lynch's Landing, Lynchburg's nonprofit for downtown revitalization. The award was presented by last year's award recipient, Lynchburg City Manager Kim Payne.
The Margaret Burnette Award reflects civic pride and a solid foundation for the future of downtown and recognizes an individual for his/her long-term commitment to Lynchburg's downtown revitalization effort and by contributing to this initiative in a leadership role with significant results.
Beginning in 1995 and finally coming to fruition in 2008, Hal worked to conceive, design and develop the $20 million hospitality complex with three partners that includes the 44 guestroom Craddock-Terry Hotel and Event Center, Shoemakers American Grille, Waterstone Pizza, and Jefferson Street Brewery. Craddock's vision for redevelopment of the 1896 Tobacco Warehouse and 1905 Shoe Factory buildings was to develop a "welcome mat" for the City and the Region that would help tell the dynamic story of Lynchburg's past, show guests the abundant hospitality of its people, and offer a downtown/riverfront vision for a future of prosperity and growth.
In his remarks, Payne noted that "This year's recipient has dedicated much of his professional life to downtown revitalization, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse. Hal Craddock's commitment to Downtown Lynchburg is evident nearly everywhere you turn."
In addition to the Margaret Burnette award, Lynch's Landing presents Downtown Awards each year in several categories: Innovative Initiatives, Get!Downtown, Good Works, Shining Star, Good Neighbor, and Volunteer of the Year.
